Who ever said isolating at home had to be boring? Whether it’s video streaming, music, arts and crafts or board games, families across Australia are finding ways to pass the time and keep themselves amused during the pandemic.

If you’re looking for something fun to do at home, Vision Australia’s Vision Store has a wide range of accessible games that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of whether you are blind, have low vision or are sighted!

Here’s a short list of top five accessible games that you and the whole family can enjoy:

Monopoly - braille and large print

The extra-large cards and money with braille and large print means everyone can play and enjoy this classic! The 51cm square game board has a moulded overlay which enables you to identify all the spaces and locations of the properties. All squares, money, dice, property and playing cards have braille and print. Braille instructions are also included. Available to purchase from the Vision Store online.

Uno cards – braille

Uno is a family favourite and, just last year, an accessible version of this popular card game was launched. These Uno cards come with braille embossing to allow the player to identify the number, colour and type of card they’re holding.

Snakes and Ladders

This beautiful hand-crafted wooden board game, with embossed snakes and ladders, is one the family will cherish for years to come. Each square has braille numbering and the two pegs are shaped differently on top for easy play. The game comes complete with game instructions, a braille dice and a shaking cup. Available here.

Braille Scrabble

A great way to boost your vocabulary, the popular board game is available in braille! Each letter tile has a braille label, as well as clear print labelling. The playing board has tactile dots on the premium letter squares and tactile dashes on the premium word squares.

Connect 4

Do you go up, to the side, or diagonally? Start in the middle or at the edge? With Connect 4, the choice is yours! This is a tactile version of the famous two-player grid style game. Black counters have a hole in the middle to distinguish from the red ones.
