Educator and counsellor, Dr Karen Wolffe will be Vision Australia’s keynote speaker at our upcoming Careers Sampler.
The Careers Sampler is an opportunity for young people who are blind or have low vision and their families to hear adults with similar lived experiences talk about their experiences of choosing and following their career paths.
Dr Wolffe said there’s often a lack of expectation that a child who is blind or has low vision will grow up and be fully engaged in the world and that early intervention is critical to address this.
“Observing people at work – incidental learning we call it – is not always an option for children who are blind or have low vision. So, we have to set the stage for them so they understand what is out there for them,” she said.
“The crux of my message is that people need to contribute to be equal with other people.”
