Once upon a time it was forced to shutter, but Vision Australia’s Boronia/Ringwood Photography Club has a new focus.
The photography club had been in hiatus for a while, but has been revived by staff at Vision Australia’s Boronia office, which in September moves to new premises in Ringwood.
“Just before I started here back in February, I was told that a volunteer and a few keen clients and staff members ran a photography club,” assistive technology specialist Elise Lonsdale says.
“They would go out one Saturday in the month to take photos of scenery, flowers and other things of interest.
“Since I started here, regional business manager Paul Warwick, assistive technology specialist Glen Bracegirdle and I have worked to re-establish the group with the aim of taking in clients who also may want recreation as part of their National Disability Insurance Scheme plans.”
Elise says the group will meet on the last Saturday of every month, starting with a tour through the City of Melbourne on Saturday, August 25.
“I’m even looking into the possibility of getting some guest speakers down the track and looking at the possibility of people being able to use this as a learning opportunity and for networking,” Elise says.
“So, whether you’re a client, a family member, a carer or a Vision Australia staff member or volunteer, or a relative of any of those people, grab your camera phones or anything else that you can capture an image on and come along.”
