Children aged eight to 12 years old who are blind or have low vision took part in an exciting school holiday program run by Vision Australia.
The program took place at the leading blindness and low vision service provider’s state-of-the-art Kensington Sensory Campus and Kooyong headquarters.
The fun-filled program, held from Monday 8 – Thursday 11 July, allowed children to experience a variety of sports including Blind Cricket, Goalball, and Swish, musical activities including live performance, as well as cooking, craft, and other team building activities.

The group also participated in outdoor activities in order to improve their orientation and mobility skills.
Each session was run by a team of therapists specialising in low vision and blindness. The team included a paediatric occupational therapist, speech pathologist, physiotherapist and an orientation and mobility specialist.
Emma Wilce, Vision Australia regional business manager Melbourne Inner South East, says children who are blind or have low vision from across Melbourne learned some valuable skills while having fun.
“Over the three school holiday programs, the change in the children has been vast. They have grown in confidence, self-esteem and their ability to communicate with each other and service providers has been the most significant change. The program really brings out their personalities and is developing the next generation of leaders.”
