One of Sydney’s greatest charitable organisations has been recognised by Vision Australia for its staunch support of services for children who are blind or have low vision.
The Black and White Committee has been recognised with a Vision Australia Award at Vision Australia’s annual general meeting in Sydney.
The awards, first established in 2006, honour those who make a substantial difference through their commitment to Vision Australia’s mission to ensure people who are blind or have low vision can live the life they choose.
Since its inception in 1936, the Black and White Committee has raised more than $4 million for Vision Australia and its predecessor organisations to support children with severe vision issues through the annual Black and White Ball and other fundraising events.
Announcing the award, Vision Australia board chair Andrew Moffat paid tribute to the Black and White Committee’s years of dedication.
“It (the committee) is an organisation that has contributed greatly to Vision Australia and its predecessor organisations for more than 80 years,” he said.
“The Black and White Committee has been organising a number of events every year for a very long time.”
With members of committee finalising preparations for this year’s Black and White Ball later this month and unable to attend the AGM, Vision Australia chief executive officer Ron Hooton will present the award to the committee at a separate function in December.
