Members of Perth’s blindness and low vision community embraced the chance to meet Vision Australia CEO Ron Hooton and members of the Vision Australia Board at an event this week in recognition of the service's rapid growth in Western Australia.
Ron and the Board met for the Board’s monthly meeting met some of the clients, volunteers and staff who are integral in building Vision Australia’s services and profile in WA.

Poor weather didn’t hamper the turnout to the function, held on Tuesday night.

Ron said Vision Australia admires clients in the west for “their robust self-advocacy”, which he said is pivotal to the expansion of our services in WA.
“It was a great evening,” he said. “It’s fantastic to see the clients, volunteers and staff actively engage with the Board members and let us know what they need to see from us in providing services in WA.”

The Board met on Thursday, but before getting down to business members took the time to listen to a presentation from the WA staff on the opportunities and challenges for Vision Australia in WA.
The meeting was attended by the senior policy advisor to WA Minister for Disabilities, Stephen Dawson.
Ron spent three days in Perth. Among his activities, he was interviewed by Vision Australia Radio, VAR, met with Department of Communities and the acting CEO of the Town of Cambridge, the local government area where Vision Australia’s new client hub in the suburb of West Leederville will open later this year.
