The world’s most advanced information access solution for people who are blind or have low vision is allowing people like receptionist and customer service officer Zac Nikolic to excel at his job.

OrCam MyEye is a wearable device that assists anyone who struggles to read due to blindness, low vision, dyslexia or acquired brain injury. It can read the morning paper, a favourite book, text messages, emails and more.

Zac said that with the help of JobAccess he was able to get an OrCam MyEye and can now assist visitors who arrive with printed documents and to receive deliveries, knowing that he’s receiving the correct packages from couriers.

“One of my main jobs is to allocate and keep track of security passes and with the OrCam I can keep track of them,” Zac said.

“It also provides me additional level of access to information that would otherwise be inaccessible, such as labelling of shelves, pigeon holes, filing trays, and even text on a computer or smartphone screen.

“The OrCam MyEye gives me the ability to access printed information at any time and in any location.”

In January 2019, OrCam added new features including voice commands allowing for easier control in changing settings and retrieving information and Bluetooth connectivity to headphones, speakers or possibly hearing aids (depending on hearing aid).

Because of privacy reasons, Zac was also provided a wireless headset through JobAccess.

“Having a wireless headset has been beneficial as it provides a level of privacy when I am presented with personal letters and an ability to use the device in meetings.”

Vision Australia product advisor Tony Wu said accessing all the information we are presented with each day can be a challenge for people who are blind or have low vision.

“This device is making a huge difference in people’s lives and it’s helping some to maintain their independence and even reduce the risk of accidents.”

Anyone interested in learning more about the OrCam MyEye is invited to attend a free information session by Regional Director of OrCam Mr John Wolff. Come and learn more about the product, the exciting new features and the new OrCam app.

There will also be an opportunity for attendees to have hands-on play with the OrCam.
