Vision Australia staff in Perth have taken part in a function designed to make the web more accessible for all.
The Web Accessibility Camp featured Microsoft's David Master, who discussed "Inclusive Design: The Future of Accessibility" in his keynote speech.
Other topics covered by speakers included gaming accessibility, examples of good and bad internet accessibility, Web Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 and the Silver taskforce on web access, among others.
Vision Australia's Erika Webb and Greg Madson presented "Are Web Browsers Keeping Up with Accessibility Needs?".
Their discussion covered:
- assistive technology provider VFO's moves to bring together ZoomText and JAWS software
- significant improvements to Narrator in Windows 10 as browsers continue to evolve, and
- the Web AIM screen reader survey, which indicated that the preferred options for users who are blind or have low vision are still JAWS with Internet Explorer or NVDA with Firefox
Organisers of the Web Accessibility Camp have provided slides for each presentation here.
