Vision Australia is hosting a free seminar for parents about the National Disability Insurance Scheme on Tuesday, 16 January.

The seminar comes ahead of the launch of NDIS services for residents in the cities of Hume and Moreland on 1 March, and is aimed at the parents of children with disability aged up to 16.

Jacinta Waters, Vision Australia’s North West Melbourne regional manager, says Vision Australia is a leading not-for-profit provider of NDIS and is ideally placed to offer advice and support to parents of children in the blind and low vision community and anyone with a disability about how NDIS can work for them.

“With the NDIS, you’re able to create a plan of support and services for your child, based on their situation today and what they would like to achieve tomorrow” Ms Waters says.

“It means you’ll have more control over the things that you want for your children. You’re now able to identify the support they will need and choose for them who you’d like to provide it for them.

“We can show you what the NDIS offers and what you can expect from the process, and our seminar is a great chance to ask the experts anything about NDIS.”

The seminar will feature a Vision Australia NDIS expert, a Vision Australia client who has already accessed the NDIS through us and a speaker from the Brotherhood of St Laurence, the Local Are Coordinators of the NDIS in Melbourne’s north-west.

The seminar will be held at Vision Australia Kensington, 346 Macaulay Road, Kensington (corner of Macaulay Road and Stubbs Street) on Tuesday 16 January from 9.30am to 11.30am. Morning tea is provided.
