Vision Australia is excited by the opportunity to work with the Department of Education and Training (DET) as they take steps to assess and improve the accessibility of their online presence.
Vision Australia Principal Digital Inclusion Consultant Leona Zumbo said the engagement of the Digital Access team by the DET is an important step in making sure the website meets the needs of all users.
“Prior to redeveloping a website, it is important to obtain input from key stakeholders like yourself to ensure the website meets their needs,” Mrs Zumbo said.
“The Digital Access team works with a range of different organisations on projects like this and it’s always pleasing when people make the decision to actively consider the importance of accessibility,” she said.
As part of the work with DET, Vision Australia is reaching out to the following people to be involved in testing and research:
- Parents of a child who is blind or has low vision
- Student over the age of 14 who are blind or have low vision
- Teachers or early childhood professionals who have a student that is blind or has low vision
The focus group will be conducted on the 2nd of July from 4pm to 6pm (2 hour session). The small event will be a discussion where we will identify what resources and information is important to the blind and low vision community.
The user testing will be conducted on either the 3rd and 5th of July (1 hour session). The user testing will be a one on one session where you will be asked to complete core tasks on a website and a facilitator will observe where you navigate, listen to your feedback and document this so that DET can incorporate it into their new website to make it useful and intuitive to use.
If you are interested to participate in the user testing, please feel free to nominate a time from 8:30am on either the 3rd and 5th of July.
Both events will be held at Vision Australia’s Kooyong office: 454 Glenferrie Road, Kooyong VIC 3144.
To register your interest in the focus group or user testing sessions, email Deb.Brooks@visionaustralia.org or call 02 9334 3456.
As a way of appreciation you will be compensated for your time. $150 for the focus group and $100 for the user testing session.
