It’s not every day you get to join some local celebrity chefs in one of Australia’s top 100 restaurants for a cooking class and lunch, but that’s exactly what some lucky clients from Vision Australia will be doing next Friday.

An initiative from Chef Vincent Lim in conjunction with Vision Australia the event will focus on allowing attendees the opportunity to help prepare the meal before sitting down and eating it with fellow Chef Kiren Mainwaring from Co-op Dining where the event will be held as well as My Kitchen Rules season seven contestants Anna and Jordan Bruno.

Vision Australia Perth regional business manager Donna Fahie, says: “A number of our clients have goals around cooking and food preparation and want to do this independently. This event allows them the opportunity to work on some of those food prep skills but supported by professionals in the industry”.

Vincent Lim, who when not busy consulting, is focused on giving back to the community, says: “I am always happy to work on events such as this and strongly believe that what I can contribute through my experience and service to the community will provide me and others with a happier and healthier living”.

As an element of the Low Vision Feast when the chefs do sit down to eat they will be blindfolded, “Every day, we hear some of the frustrations our clients experience when eating out, simple things like advising when the food has been placed down and addressing the clients when a wait person approaches or leaves the table.

As key figures in hospitality we are hoping that what these Chefs can take from that experience will also help them to educate their staff on things they can do to make dining experiences more enjoyable and accessible to all.”

“The fact that we have so many people and businesses supporting an event like this through their time and produce also enables us to provide more chances for us to facilitate like this for our clients,” Donna says.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, fundraising does form a large part of our funding and we rely on it to support clients who cannot seek funding elsewhere.”

Vision Australia’s Low Vision Feast is proudly supported by local WA businesses including Chef V Hospitality Consulting, Co-op Dining, Crema Coffee Co., Fin’s Seafood, Harvey Beef, Linley Valley Pork, Mount Barker Chicken and OZ Harvest.
