The holiday season is on our doorstep, with tinsel and shiny baubles emerging from the dark depths of dusty cupboards! Nestled amongst the decorations is a box of left over Christmas cards, the last vestige of an increasingly bygone era of letter writing.

Despite New Year’s resolutions to ‘find more time to catch up this year,’ the emergence of Christmas Trees is the catalyst to reach out to family and friends, particularly those living interstate and abroad.

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Bodhi Day or the Summer Solstice, the joy of sending or receiving a letter full of news is heartfelt. Vision Australia are here to help you share that joy.

Transcribing your letters from loved ones

Christmas cards add festive cheer for the mantlepiece, but the thoughtful message inside brings warmth to the heart. Encourage your family and friends to contact Vision Australia, we can transcribe their Christmas news into your preferred accessible format such as braille, audio, e-text or large print.

Alternatively, if you receive Christmas news in a format you cannot read, reach out to Vision Australia. We will convert the letter into your preferred accessible format.

Writing Christmas letters to your nearest and dearest

There are a wide range of accessible writing tools and technology which enable our library members to continue the all-important task of writing. However, these adaptive tools may not produce letters in the format that is accessible by your family and friends.

Irrespective of how you write your Christmas epistle, Vision Australia are here to support you. We can convert your Christmas message into large print, e-text, audio, braille; whatever format is accessible for your family and friends.

Vision Australia will send your letter to members of the Vision Australia community who are blind, have low vision or live with a print disability. Alternatively, we can send copies of your Christmas letter to your home address. You can place each letter inside a card or envelope and share your news with loved ones across the globe.

What does it cost?

As a Vision Australia library member, you can request up to 360 print pages of personal information, to be converted to your preferred accessible format such as large print, e-text, braille, audio per financial year. Your Christmas letter can be part of your free transcription quota.
